M. Teresa Lawrence of The Trueness Project Recently Featured on Close Up Radio

DANIEL, WY, UNITED STATES, November 4, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ -- Most people wear a dark suit to meet a head of state. M. Teresa Lawrence prefers wings. “I love meeting heads of state dressed as a butterfly,” admits Lawrence, founder of The Trueness Project, a nonprofit based in Wyoming. In fact, she wears butterfly regalia nearly everywhere she goes. This fall she is dressing as a butterfly for a bigger idea: one billion acts of kindness, logged worldwide between November 1st and January 31st.

Lawrence is an official ambassador of kindness and happiness for Pásalo Pa’lante, a global campaign run by the Te Amo PR, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit. Participants record their good deeds at passkindnessforward.com, with the target being a Guinness World Records title. Lawrence even is touring to promote it.

“Just as a flap of a butterfly’s wings can affect the weather on the other side of the planet, one act of kindness can change the world,” she asserts. In her telling, the benefits of kindness travel in a loop. The person who gives feels joy, and anyone watching is inspired to pass it along. “Go be kind and be kind to yourself,” she says.

Butterflies fill the first half of her year. The Grand Butterfly Gathering, which Lawrence calls “the largest gathering of people dressed as butterflies on the planet,” lands on the last Saturday in June in Jackson, Wyoming, with participants joining virtually around the world. This year, 100 countries took part online, with Kenya and Nepal joining every year. The 2026 edition also introduced the Worldwide Canine Flutter, which put dogs in wings (horses wore them too, because it was Jackson). The in-person event runs from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and includes a butterfly pavilion and a magician. Last year’s rain meant guests carried live butterflies to the trees by hand. The next gathering is scheduled for June 26, 2027.

After Lawrence invited Guinness World Records to Jackson two years running, she learned just how strict its rules are. For example, all participants must wear long underwear and antennas. No record has arrived been achieved, but the party has returned every year regardless.

The gathering asks people to pray for peace. “Everybody talks about peace, but if you don’t have peace within yourself, you can’t give it to somebody else,” Lawrence shares.

Her path to the wings started in a courtroom. Lawrence chose law school over journalism school because she wanted the power to weave a story. “I learned that whoever has the better story generally wins in a court of law,” she says. She built a practice around special needs trusts for disabled children.

After COVID and losing her mother and other loved ones, Lawrence sat down and wrote out her own dreams. The first was publishing a children’s book, “Gloriousness,” a story for readers ages 3 to 7 about owning your story. “The Power of Leadership with M. Teresa Lawrence” followed for adults. She then co-authored the Wings series for the nonprofit, with one title [which one?] becoming an international bestseller in nine countries. Her newest, “Wings of Purpose,” was recently released. She also helped Prairie Girls School in Kenya produce its own book, “Leaning Forward.”

The Trueness Project donates leadership books and supports menstrual health for girls in Kenya, where Lawrence says, girls without pads often leave school and do not return.

Lawrence is a Cuban refugee. Her family left with nothing, and she was sent to live with strangers as a small child. She read that as abandonment, and the belief limited her for years. “I created that storyline and it limited me,” she shares, “so, I rewrote my story.” Anyone, she adds, can rewrite theirs.

Next comes Beyond the Darkness, a mental health project she is developing around a free app that will give everyone free access to support. Lawrence expects job losses tied to artificial intelligence to strain mental health worldwide and says joy and play belong in the response. “Joyous people are productive people,” she asserts.

Lawrence also has a pollinator cause of her own. She tells audiences that the food on their plates arrived courtesy of butterflies and bees, and she works with world leaders to protect butterfly sanctuaries.

She also offers a ten-minute experiment for readers: walk into every room curious about the story behind each person in it. “I always walk in curious,” she says.
